What is cupping + Gua SHa?
Cupping therapy is an ancient healing modality that has been used for thousands of years in Eastern medicine to treat a variety of ailments from chronic pain to anxiety. Cupping essentially involves creating suction of the skin via cups. This suction lifts the skin increases local circulation and creates room for connective tissues to loosen and relax.
Gua Sha is another ancient healing technique. ‘Gua’ means rub and ‘sha’ is the temporary reddening of the skin afterward. The treatment includes lubricating the skin with oil and using a tool to stroke the skin repeatedly. This causes a therapeutic rash as blood stagnation is brought to the superficial skin layers to be naturally flushed by the body.

What to expect at a cupping session?
Cupping and Gua Sha is overall pain relieving, relaxing, energizing, and detoxifying. These techniques are not painful, but both leave marks that are signs of stagnant fluids and toxins in the area that have been brought to the surface. The body will naturally clear these toxins and the marks will fade within 3-7 days. After a session, it’s important to stay extra hydrated and rest well to support your body as it integrates these shifts.
